Religion

☛ At the moment, this page is very much in a draft version, as you will see, and, indeed, mostly only contains recommendations for some books. It might be, yet, that some more elaborated explanations of some aspects of the religions mentioned might be given at a later stage.

  Preliminary Remarks

I. What is Religion ?

There are various ways of understanding the term "religion", and based on that some spiritual people sometimes avoid thinking or talking of themselves as "religious". Yet, if we have a closer look, we might find that
re-ligio, which is Latin, could be interpreted as connecting "back" with one's roots (origin). While I do know that some religious scientists do not follow this interpretation, I believe we ought to look for the "truest", for the deepest meanings of words.

Thus,
Religion, not as anything institutionalised, but as the Connection to Freedom itself, if not that Freedom, is quite important.

On this page, the most common religions are or will be referred to - in a deep sense, of course, everything guiding one to realization of one's true being could be called "Religion", in my eyes.

II. Order of the Religious Paths

The order in which information about various religions are given here is not to be supposed to be a statement about their worth or validity for you who are reading this. Furthermore, the outer form of a religion is more or less just that - a "form". In their core, in their essence or in their aims, they might be deeply interrelated or similar.

A. Christianity

Most people believe to have an idea, what Christianity is about. Often, this is influenced by organized churches or religious institutions. Yet, there are statements like:

In English in a free translation:

If Christ is born a thousand times in Bethlehem,
lost you’ll remain eternally, if he's not born within.

("Within you", that is.)

And, especially since we are having here a page about books:

In English in a free translation:

Friend, it is enough. If you would like to read some more,
just go, becoming the scripture, and being and essence, and lore.

                                         Angelus Silesius

The true core of Christianity is pretty esoteric. This can be realized by looking into the gnostic Gospels and the writings of the Gnostics.

In the Medieval Ages, this was realized e.g. by
Meister Eckhart, St. Teresa of Ávila (Teresa de Jesús), St. John of the Cross (San Juan de la Cruz), Hildegard von Bingen, Mechthild von Magdeburgkkkkk and many others. "The Cloud of Unknowing" was written. Thomas a Kempis wrote his Imitatio Christi (as to versions in German, I like the translation by Bischof [Bishop] Sailer).

Later, Angelus Silesius, whom we have encountered already above, is to be mentioned. Marie de Guyon wrote her.....

Eastern Pilgrims spoke the "Prayer of the Heart".

II. Buddhismus und Taoismus

- Dazu einige Hinweise auf
http://www.jewel-of-light.org/texte/weltreligionengrundlagen.doc.

Science and Civilisation in Chia .

G. Germanic

I (
AM) have written a concise overview over the Germanic religion from my perspective in: Germany [Part 3], in: 啓明学園研究紀要 第14号 [2007], pp. 1 ff.]. Currently, friends or students can ask me or access it at http://diedeutschesprache.de/files/ (see pp. 59 ff. with further references in the article "Germany"). This article gives a lot of books for your reference not mentioned here.

For source-texts and dictionaries see here. For some interesting, sometimes esoteric interpretations see e.g. http://www.eldaring.de and (without necessarily sharing all tendencies and views being expressed on that site or the writings mentioned there) http://www.allsherjargode.de/germanischereihe.htm and, especially,  http://33151.rapidforum.com/.

H. Zoroastrian  ·  Mazdaznan

The Zoroastrian Religion lives !

Be it in Persia, be it with the Parses in India (Bombay area). There is even a
Zoroastrian College (they have a book-page). In the west, look to the Mazdaznians.

A very good book on Zoroastrian Healing, also giving some basic introduction into the religion, I think, is Prof. Dr. Meher Master-Moos' "........."

After all this being said, we would like to hint again at that there are many other Paths mentioned on this site, which are deeply religious or looking to the same aim, the world's religions are aiming at, too. Just look through the
subject-areas to explore further. And if your religion has not been mentioned - please forgive. Maybe the contributors to this page have not encountered or explored it.

As my (AM) English teacher at high school said: "Si tacuisses, philosophus mansisses."
