A. Term and Definition

During the course of centuries, the works or the knowledge of various authors has been understood as "theosophy". (Only) in so far as the current version would be good and helpful – this has often not been the case, or, worse, there were distortions, as far as esoteric or spiritual articles in Wikipedia are concerned –, you might be able to get some inspiration for further research here.

Often, the term is associated with the Theosophical Society founded by Mme. Blavatsky, Colonel Olcott and W. Q. Judge [Hinweis für mich: noch checken] and the teachings given in its context.

B. Some Important Authors

a. Name and Essence

The term "Theosophy" comprises a wide range of spiritual subjects, existing since ancient times.

A few important authors possibly to be named in this context are, besides Emanuel Swedenborg and Jakob Boehme, Mme. Blavatsky with her many groundbreaking works ("The Secret Doctrine", "The Voice of the Silence", "Isis Unveiled", "The Key to Theosophy" etc.; please see the links for more important notes on these works), Mabel Collins, Annie Besant, C. W. Leadbeater, A. Bailey etc., Colonnel Olcott.

A good overview offers the work of Beatrice Flemming.

Interesting I find what Mario Mantese, in: "Im Herzen der Welt", p. 44 is saying about the precincts of the Theosophical Society in Adyar and Varanasi and about the Spiritual Hierarchy.

b. Some Remarks as to the Various Editions

There seems to be the possibility that "thousands of 'changes and corrections' had been made to the original writings of HPB and Mr. Judge. Such deletions and additions were the product of prominent 'post-HPB' Theosophists". If you would like to stick to the first editions as originally published, you might want to look into facsimile-reprints, e.g. of ULT (it is possible to order them here).

C. Online Ressources

• You can find a dictionary here.

• Quite a lot of material can be found by using the links you can find on the page with Mme. Blavatsky's books please do have a look there.

• Interesting, what Daskalos has said about the Theosophical Society and Anthroposophy, see here. Interesting, too, by the way, what it seems Leadbeater had said about Daskalos.)
